Kyojuro Rengoku's family and personality! His death battle with Akaza explained[Demon Slayer]

Kyojuro Rengoku is a demon hunting swordsman in Demon Slayer Corps.

He is a Pillar (Hashira), the highest-ranking swordsman in The Demon Slayer Corps. Kyojuro Rengoku has a strong sense of justice and believes that it is his mission to protect humans from demons.

Tanjiro respected and genuinely admired Kyojuro Rengoku's strength and integrity.

Profile and personality of Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku's hair is basically blonde and red in some places. He always wore a flame-patterned cloak and had a simple personality. Most of the pillars laughed when Tanjiro declared to Kagaya Ubuyashiki ( Oyakatasama) that he is going to defeat the Muzan at the hashira meeting, but Rengoku was the only one who said, "Mm! Good mindset!" Rengoku was a top-notch swordsman, recognized by the other pillars. Along with Tanjiro and the others, Kyojuro Rengoku fought Enmu, the lower rank 1 of the twelve kizuki, in the Mugen(Infinity) train, and then Akaza, the upper rank 3 of the twelve kizuki.

He had a great influence on Inosuke and Tanjiro.

Family of Kyojuro Rengoku

Father: Shunjuro Rengoku

Kyojuro's father, Shunjuro, formerly the Flame Pillar, was admired by Kyojuro when he was a child. When Shunjuro was the Flame Pillar, he was a respected father, but after he was devastated by his own incompetence and the death of his wife, Ruka, he quit his job as a swordsman and ended up getting drunk every day. From then on Shunjuro started to treat his two sons badly. When Tanjiro informed Shunjuro of Kyojuro's last will, Shunjuro said

He didn't have much talent to be a swordsman, and that's why he's dead! Nonsense...Kyojuro is a stupid son!

Shunjuro also has a huge complex about Breathing of the Sun (Hinokami kagura). Shunjuro tried to beat Tanjiro when he learned that Tanjiro can use Breathing of the Sun. His son Senjiro tried to stop this fighting but Shunjuro also tried to beat up his son. Shunjuro’s personality had become so twisted that it's hard to believe that Shunjuro is the former pillar (Hashira).

Mother: Ruka Rengoku

Ruka was a strong and kind person. When Kyojuro was still a child, she told Kyojuro,

It is the responsibility of a strong person to help the weak. It is a mission that must be fulfilled with responsibility. You must never forget it.

She taught that. Her teachings established who Kyojuro was. Ruka died when Kyojuro's younger brother, Senjiro, was very young. And shortly before Kyojuro's death, Ruka appeared. Ruka smiled and nodded to Kyojuro, who then asked his mother if he was able to fulfill his mission.

Younger Brother: Senjiro Rengoku

Unlike Kyojuro, Senjiro is a shy boy, unable to say anything to his drunken, verbally abusive father. Senjiro has no talent as a swordsman, even the color of his Nichirin Blade has not changed. He feels responsible for the loss of the Flame Breather's successor. Senjiro received a memento of Kyojuro, the red nichirin blade, from Tanjiro. Afterward, Senjiro and Tanjiro became friends who write to each other.

Kyojuro Rengoku defended 200 people from Enmu on the Mugen Train

Kyojuro Rengoku was sent to investigate the "Mugen Train", a train that has lost over forty passengers and several swordsmen, while Tanjiro and his friends boarded the train to meet with him without knowing it. Enmu, the lower rank 1 of the twelve kizuki, was lurking in the train, and Kyojuro Rengoku and Tanjiro's team worked together to fight him.

Enmu was a demon nicknamed the "Sleeping Demon" who can put opponents to sleep and show them dreams at his will. Kyojuro and everyone had dreams when fighting Enmu in the Infinity train.

For example, Inosuke's dream was an adventurous world where he had Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Nezuko under his command. All of them had happy dreams, except for Kyojuro.

In his dream, Kyojuro reported to his father that he had become a pillar. But instead of being happy about it, his father said,

You became a pillar, so what? What's up with that? Whatever. You and I won't be much of a thing anyway."

After Kyojuro finished his report to his father, his brother Senjiro asked him, " Was father happy that you became a Hashira? If I become a hashira, will our father approve of me too?" Kyojuro said." I'll be honest. Father was not pleased! But that doesn't take away my passion! The fire in my heart will never go out! I'm never going to fall back!"

Senjiro has no memory of his mother and cannot receive his father's love, Kyojuro said to Senjiro.

" You have an older brother. He believes in you. Whatever path you take, you will be a great man! Let's work together with a burning passion! Even if you're lonely, do your best to live!"

After waking up from his dream Kyojuro Rengoku, along with Zenitsu and Nezuko, was dedicated to protecting the passengers while Tanjiro and Inosuke were fighting with Enmu. Thanks to Kyojuro's work, none of the 200 passengers on board lost their lives.

Kyojuro fought to the death with Akaza

Tanjiro and his team were able to defeat Enmu safely, but Akaza, the upper rank 3 of twelve kizuki, arrived. Akaza took aim at the first wounded Tanjiro, but Kyojuro slashed Akaza's arm with the Breathing of Fire, the second form, Ascending Flame Heaven. 

And Akaza said to Kyojuro,

Why don't you become a demon too?

Akaza said, 

You should become a demon Kyojuro, if you become a demon you can continue to train for a hundred or two hundred years. You will be strong.

but Kyojuro replied,

Growing old and dying is the beauty of the fragile creature called human beings. It is because we age and die that we are unbearably lovable and precious. I will not become a demon for any reason.

He replied. Akaza and Kyojuro then engaged in a fierce battle. 

Akaza said:

If you don't become a demon, I'll kill you.

Akaza pushed Kyojuro to the brink of life and tried to convince him to become a demon.

The Chosen Mighty One! The responsibility Kyojuro has to carry.

His mother Ruka taught to Kyojuro

It was the duty of those born strong to help the weak.

Kyojuro was reminded of his mother's words just as his life was about to burn out, and even though Kyojuro had Akaza's arm through his chest, Kyojuro used the last of his strength to swing his sword to cut Akaza's head off. And it was almost dawn. Akaza was the Twelve Kizuki, but he will cease to exist if the sunlight hits his body. Realizing that he was in danger of dying, Akaza tried to retreat, but Kyojuro used his last ounce of strength to hold him back.

Tanjiro threw his sword at Akaza as Akaza tried to escape, and the sword pierced Akaza's chest as he fleed from the sun. Kyojuro, who was pierced in the chest by Akaza, had no hope of survival.

Tanjiro said to the fleeing Akaza,

Don't run away, you coward! The Demon Slayer Corps is always battling demons in the darkness of the night in favor of the demons. Kyojuro had defended everyone without letting anyone die. The winner of this battle is Kyojuro!

Tanjiro continued to cry and scream as he asserted his pride in Kyojuro.

Kyojuro died with a smile on his face

Kyojuro spoke softly to Tanjiro

No matter what painful things you face, burn your heart, and look forward to life. As a pillar, it was only natural that I will be a shield for my juniors. It was not your responsibility for me to die. I believe that you will become a Pillar that will support The Demon Slayer Corps in the future.

And in his last moments, Kyojuro saw his dead mother, and he asks his mother,

What do you think? Did I do what I had to do?

his mother replied "You did well", smiling. Having fulfilled his mission, Kyojuro died peacefully in his sleep.

Kyojuro's last will and testament determined the way of life of those left behind.

Even the overwhelmingly strong Kyojuro was killed by the demons. This event made Tanjiro and the others uneasy. Anxiety dominated their minds as they wonder if they will never be able to be like Kyojuro. Inosuke said loudly to Tanjiro and Zenitsu who were crying.

Don't be so weak! We have to live no matter how embarrassed or miserable we are. Don't cry even if you're frustrated.

There were tears in Inosuke's eyes as he said that, the three of them shared the same frustration and sadness.

After the battle, Tanjiro went to Kyojuro's home and told Kyojuro's last words to Senjiro.

I want you to follow your heart and follow the path that you think is right.

After hearing his brother's last will and testament, Senjiro decided to give up his swordsmanship and decided to find a way to help people in other ways.

The second season of Demon Slayer is still not planned as of November 2020. However, Demon Slayer is an extremely popular manga so it will definitely be on the air, so let's mourn Kyojuro's death and wait to see what will happen to others in the anime...!
