Why did Puck disappear in the second season of Re:Zero?

In the second season of Re:Zero, Subaru and Emilia went to the forest known as the 'Sanctuary' to help Rem, who had her name and memories eaten by Lye Batenkaitos. Puck appeared in front of Subaru, who was concerned about Rem, since he had not been seen by Emilia and Subaru. Puck didn’t answer Emilia's questions either.

To begin with, Puck is basically inactive at night, but since Emilia and Subaru arrived at the sanctuary, he hadn't been seen even during the day.

Was there a connection between Puck not showing up and Emilia's challenge to the ordeals of the witch of greed, Echidna, in the sanctuary?

The conversation between Puck and Subaru had a profound meaning.
